MSDN Unblocked Our Server Requests - Problem Resolved
Posted by NewsGator Support on June 11, 2008

Our servers were unblocked by MSDN overnight.
Everything appears to be up to date now. Please let me know if any of
you see anything out of the ordinary.
Since the outage stretched
over a period of about two weeks, it is possible that some items posted
just after the outage began may no longer be hosted at the source. If
this is the case, our servers will not receive these missing posts.
However,
if you are using one of our desktop readers and you had unsynchronized
these MSDN feeds during the outage, these missing posts were most
likely picked up by the reader itself and exist in the reader's cache.
In this scenario you wouldn't have missed any posts.
We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience while this situation was being resolved.

We are seeing an issue with all MSDN feeds. Currently, our servers are unable to update feeds from this source.
We have opened a support ticket with MSDN. Early indications are that this is not a problem specific to NewsGator, but a much larger issue which began in the final week of May.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

At
around 10:40 this morning, feeds being retrieved from WordPress
returned a permanent redirect command, sending them to the default
WordPress feed.
The system checked to ensure that the new endpoint was a valid feed,
and then applied the redirect. It appears that several hundred feeds
have been effected at this point.
We are working to reverse the redirects, and should have that done
soon. We won’t be able to remove the incorrect posts from the feeds, so
if you see something that appears to come from a different source,
please mark it as read.

Earlier this week we experienced an extended overnight service outage. We have identified
the problem and have taken steps to try to prevent this sort of thing
from happening again in the future.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

That's right, you can now get the market-leading RSS Readers for Microsoft Outlook, PC, Mac, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry/Java for free. Install them on any machine, or give them to friends and family.
As part of this change, Newsgator Support is going to evolve in look, feel and function. Our support forums are now going to be Community Forums. As the number of users grow, there is no better support than other people who have had the same or similar problem and found a solution. Support will still be involved in the forum, but as one of many people who can answer a question, rather than the primary source of information.
We'll be investing more time in creating resources so that customers can find the answers they are looking for. This means more knowledge base articles, help files, and screencasts. If you have something that you think should be better documented, we'd love you to submit a suggestion in our Community Forums. We will be phasing out end-user support via email.
We are extremely excited about this new direction, and we have more information available on the Free NewsGator Consumer RSS Readers - Frequently Asked Questions page.

Product Update
We have some major changes included in NetNewsWire 3.1b21 including a new Combined View, Leopard changes and fixes, and a bunch of bug fixes.
The new Combined View is designed for better readability and skim-ability. It also breaks lots of news items up into pages, so that performance doesn’t suffer when trying to load hundreds or thousands of items at once.
Leopard changes include things like using the new folder icon in the subscriptions list and using the new dock badge standard.
See nnwbeta.com for the download and more in-depth change notes. (Yes, NetNewsWire betas now have their own domain name. ;))

ANN: TopStyle 3.5 Final Release

TopStyle
At long last, the final release of TopStyle 3.5 is now available. We hope you enjoy the new version!
As you can see from the release notes, version 3.5 isn't a minor upgrade - it offers a ton of new features, improvements and fixes. It could easily have been called TopStyle 4.0, but customers have been waiting a long time for a new TopStyle, so we've named it v3.5 and made it a free upgrade from v3.x
To get it, just stop by the TopStyle Registered Download page, then enter the serial number you received if you purchased TopStyle through NewsGator. If you purchased through another online store (such as RegNow), enter the email address you used when you placed your order. Note that there's no need to uninstall the previous 3.x version before upgrading - just install v3.5 directly on top of it.
Top five new features in TopStyle 3.5:
- Box Spy - exposes an HTML tag's margins, padding and content box as you mouse over it in the preview
- Live Preview - apply the current style sheet to an external URL
- Replace in Files - as requested by countless former HomeSite users who loved its "Extended Replace" feature
- New style definitions for Firefox 2, IE7, Safari 2 and Opera 9
- PNG images are now supported by the thumbnail viewer
Top five improvements in TopStyle 3.5:
- Faster performance throughout
- Insight now displays a list of HTML entities when & key is pressed
- Hitting TAB when text is selected now indents the selection (I know this seems like a minor improvement, but enough people asked for this that I figured it deserved to be included here)
- Support for printing in color
- Thumbnail viewer is now embedded in the file explorer for easier access
Top five fixes in TopStyle 3.5:
- Site reports and style insight now correctly support multiple class names (ex:
<div class="class1 class2">) - Style sweeper now does a much better job preserving CSS comments
- Thumbnail viewer now always shows the correct image dimensions regardless of the system font size
- W3C HTML Validator no longer fails due to invalid content-type
- A myriad of fixes to make TopStyle Vista-compatible
If you have any questions or comments about the new TopStyle, we'd love to hear from you in the TopStyle Support and Requests forum.
