Introducing the NewsGator Toolbar Beta for Internet Explorer and FireFox

As I alluded to in my previous post, I’ve been hard at work on something new, and here it is… the NewsGator Toolbar Beta for Internet Explorer and FireFox!

Get the NewsGator Toolbar here: http://www.newsgator.com/download/toolbar/ngtoolbarsetup.exe

What does it do?

  • Quick and easy way to discover and subscribe to new feeds, straight from your browser, into NewsGator Online, NewsGator Inbox, or FeedDemon (and soon NewsGator Enterprise Server).
  • Autodiscover feeds as you browse the web and get information - like the number of NewsGator Subscribers – or preview the feed before you subscribe.
  • Right click “Subscribe with NewsGator” context menu in both IE and FireFox.
  • Search for new feeds by keyword.
  • See who’s linking to the pages you’re browsing and read what they have to say about it.

Keep in mind that this is a pre-release, which means it's not done yet! So please don't download it unless you're comfortable using incomplete software that still contains bugs.

The NewsGator Toolbar requires the Microsoft .Net Version 2.0 Framework to be installed.

If you install the IE version, you will need to go to View->Toolbars->NewsGator in order to display the toolbar.

Any problems, please report them in the NewsGator Toolbar Forum!

Any plans to release this as a firefox extension? I use portable firefox, so I would like for firefox to manage the installation location.

Keep up the good work!

Is the toolbar compatible with IE7beta? I successfully downloaded it and installed it. The "Search for Feeds" function and "Discussion" link did not seem to work, though. I am using NGOnline.

This is certainly a step in the right direction, although I'd prefer to see it open a Feeddemon submenu right in the browser that showed one's FeedDemon directory, so that one could add the feed directly to FeedDemon without Feeddemon actually opening. Is that at all possible?

Otherwise, looking good!
