Marshall Kirkpatrick over at ReadWriteWeb has an interesting blog post with seven tips for getting the most out of your RSS reader. It’s a nice summary of ideas around RSS that you might not have thought of to make RSS more useful for your needs.
One important point he makes is to not worry about having too many posts . Many people, he points out, are overwhelmed and feel that they need to read every post. But there’s no waste in RSS; if you don’t want to read it or have too many posts, just delete them. New stuff will come in anyway. Don’t feel bad if you’re not reading every post; the internet never closes. There will always be something new in the pipeline.
Other suggestions include using a river of news view for a change, trying different readers, including desktop ones like NetNewsWire and FeedDemon, the advantages of sharing and tagging items and using OPML to move your feeds around easily among readers. It’s worth reading to pick up a few pointers you might not have thought of.
