NewsGator for Windows Mobile Beta Now Available
A little less than three months ago, we announced a couple of new mobile RSS readers that were in the works. One of them was a reader for Windows Mobile devices called SmartRead, which was under development by Kevin Cawley. Now christened NewsGator for Windows Mobile Devices, the product has entered public beta, and is available for download here.
If you have a Windows Mobile device such as the Treo 700w, the MotorolaQ, the Cingular 2125 or one of the newer HP iPaqs, I definitely encourage you to try this application out. It's fast, has a great interface, and makes it easy to get your favorite feeds on your smartphone.
Have a Blackberry, Treo or other J2ME-capable device? Keep your eye on this space for more details on the NewsGator Mobile J2ME Reader beta in the near future.

C'mon, guys -- I followed a link here from Ranchero, and there's no .cab file to be seen. How about not requiring Windows to install the software?

Rich - we have a cab version; it's just not available at the moment for download. Believe it or not, it had to do with the process of accepting the license agreement before download; that was worked out, but the cab file didn't make it online in time. Send a note to the email address in your welcome email and someone can send you a link. Thanks!

Is there anything special you have to do to enable your account to work with this? I can't get logged in and I have checked and re-checked my login info a number of times.

Hi again, I did register and the service is great :)
Also, I'm using the popular Browster internet browser plugin and it actually makes using your service impossible to navigate, but ya just a heads up if you guys didn't know about it.

Hi Rich, the CAB file will be available on Monday... sorry about that oversight.
Mark, are you still unable to log in - you should not need to do anything special? If you still need assistance send me an email at kevinc@newsgator.com or give me a call 720.244.3415.

Does this require a NewsGator paid account? If so, I'd like to see some screenshots or something before I bother. Any chance you can post some? thanks

Thanks for this. Very nice. One thing I would love to see is a today-screen plugin that you could set to cycle feeds. This..combied w/ the sync-capability b/n this and my online newsgator would make this a truly killer app for your pocketpc phone.

One more question; where is the 'techincal feedback' forum or where can we discuss our likes/dislikes with this tool? So far I really REALLY like this RSS reader on my phone.

Hi, installed Mobile beta on my T-Mobile MDA, no problems. Signed up for free account, signed in one time only, and everytime I activate Mobile beta it goes online, grabs all the latest feeds I'm subscribed to, all without any glitches or fuss. I like this program. Would be nice to have a Today plugin.

I've downloaded Mobile and been running for a few days. In general, it is a nice application for viewing feeds on my (Cingular 8125) SmartPhone.
My biggest beef with Newsgator is synchronization of Online (or Mobile) with Outlook. Once the feed is downloaded to Outlook, you're pretty much toast with re: to synchonization from Online/Mobile to Outlook (conversly the reverse works well). I can imagine a whole host of reasons why this is a problem, but it makes using Online/Mobile frustrating when you are using Outlook too. The time I spend reviewing and "deleting" from Online/Mobile is lost on Outlook if the feed has already been downloaded. Is this an "operator error" issue or legit concern others are having?
Oh, and any way to mark a single post as unread with Mobile? Or are we being shuffled to use the Clippings?
Like I said, I like the Mobile app and would encourage others to try it.

Will the Newsgator Mobile client be able to automatically download podcasts? From my use of the beta, it looks like the client only downloads the text portion. I'd like to be able to set the client to fetch the latest audio podcasts for my favorite sites in the background and be able to listen to them when I click on each new entry.
Thanks!

Hi,
it seems like it does not support the proxy setting from Win Mobile 2003. It hangs forever when I enter my credentials and then try to login.

Hello, This software is very cool but i've noticed 2 problems :
- The pictures into the feeds cannot be displayed.
- The synchro is only with "Newsgator Web Edition" and not the one for the pda.
Anyone has seen that ?
