As you know, NewsGator has worked with a single minded focus on providing the best RSS tools on the market. In the last several weeks, we've made some BIG announcements, (the acquisition of FeedDemon; the addition of our podcasting receiver, FeedStation; the launch of our business and competitive intelligence offering, Business IQ).
We are so excited to be able to pull the sheets off our new Outlook release - NewsGator Outlook Edition 2.5. We've had a ton of feedback from our user base and we were able to incorporate some very cool features into this release, including improved synchronization. You can now synchronize:
- read/unread/delete status
- content and subscriptions
- folder structures
AND...the synchronization works between multiple machines running NewsGator Outlook Edition, as well all all other editions provided within NewsGator Online.
If you are a current Outlook Edition user or are currently subscribed to one of our business plans, you're going to like this next part. We've decided to give our current Outlook Edition users up to two years FREE, as a token of our appreciation for working through those early versions with us. You can get the details here, or follow this link to your user page (you'll need to login) and enter your license key to get your free upgrade. Greg Reinacker has also posted detailed instructions on redeeming your current 2.0 license for your free upgrade.
The best part is that you'll get even more of all the great NewsGator services you've come to expect, including all the new features/functionality and updates that we'll be introducing over the next several months. We will continue to expand our service base and are committed to continue improving the quality of your user experience.
Thanks for choosing NewsGator!

This is great news. I got the product recently and have loved every minute of using it. I really love the sync'ing of all items.
ON top of this, can't wait for the availablity of FeedDemon.
Keep up the great work.

Great news? Hardly! This is nothing more than a forced transition to a subscription service. So long NewsGator; hello Attensa. Here's hoping they'll be more transparent about their subscription model.

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the RSS-embedded versions of Windows coming up - both XP and "Longhorn." How do you think this will affect services like yours?
You can take this offline, if you prefer!

I, for one, am not very keen on this switch to a subscription business model for software. While I can understand the necessity for a business to generate a revenue stream to remain viable, I don't have deep enough pockets to spend on forced software upgrades and subscription plans.
I hope this transition to a subscription-based service in no way affects my continued perpetual use of NewsGator 2.0 (Outlook Edition) as per the EULA. I hope the software I purchased years ago continues to function properly without ill-effects (e.g. Time Bombs), as I enjoy using the 2.0 version just fine. I don't really need the synchronization features to NewsGator Online to view RSS feeds in Outlook (which is the only reason I originally purchased the program, long before NewsGator Online).
I wish the staff of Newsgator the best of luck in this venture. I and others have terminated perpetual business arrangements with other software providers when they switched to subscription-based business models. I'll stick with my antiquated solutions as long as they continue to perform the tasks I need.

Hi folks. First, thanks for commenting.
Second, as Nick Bradbury pointed out, we've listened. The software you get is yours; our job will be to convince you to subscribe on top of that. So, no 'forced subscription model' going forward ...

Stay tuned but most importantly, thanks for your support..
